From the start of our business in 2012, the team at SILO has always valued and been committed to operating an inclusive, hate free space (both physical and virtual) for our customers as well as our employees. It has become abundantly clear that beliefs alone are not enough. As a company we must become more intentional in our efforts to embrace the principles in which we genuinely believe — diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice.
To kick off our value-based action, we signed on to the JAG Ambassador program. This program is a collective of local businesses who are committed to “anti-racist practices and collectively promote marginalized voices in their operations, products, and services, such as being safe spaces for the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ people” (JAG Productions, 2019). In 2021 we released our Windsor Gin – a portion of whose profits go directly to JAG productions. Additionally, we have started the process of bringing in more supplemental products to our tasting room made by members of the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities. This takes time and research and while we are still in this preliminary stage, we are working together to move forward. Many of our bottles now include a $1 donation to a local non-profit or community organization. Next time you buy a bottle of SILO Spirits take a look at the back and see where your dollar is headed!
As always, our tasting room and bar will continue to operate as a safe space for members of the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. Please visit us in Windsor, Vermont. SILO Spirits are intended for all.
